As the name indicates, it is something that automatically responds, but to whom, and for what?

It is an online tool.  It is software.  It is a databse that stores information

It capture people's information when they respond to a page that captures information.  These types of pages are known by various names, such as squeeze pages, splash pages, and/or lead capture pages.

Why do you need one?

If you want to effectively communicate with your audience in a safe, SPAM-FREE manner, you need a solid, reliable service that does  that for you.  It centralizes your communications by storing all the information that you captured using one of those pages mentioned above. 

It also allows you to send an email to many people at once.  Without an autoresponder you're not looking like a professional.  If you try to organize your personal free email service to send emails, you will end up wasting a lot of time organizing the list of contacts, and you won't look professional.

How do you use an autorepsonder?

There are many autoresponder companies out there, and the really good ones offer Live Chat Customer Support, and training videos.  The best way to learn how to use them, in my humble opinion, is practice.  The companies tha t offerthis servicehavemore features than you'll probablyever use,so ask yourself what do you need to accomplish and get something done.

Focus on what you need to accomplish instead of getting bogged down trying to learn all the features that  comewith the service.  

How much will you have to pay for an autoresponder?

Prices are usually around 15-20 dollars a month for the best ones. Don't pay more than that,and don'tuse free ones,either. It's tempting to use a FREE autorpeosnder,but the service isn't that good,your  emails will be splattered with ads that are NOT your own, and they sometimes have access to the list you built.

NOTE: Avoid the free autoresponders, and use only the best companies with the best reputation.
